The Return, Done Loud

Cadillac’s modern prototype comeback arrived in 2023 with the V-Series.R—a Dallara-built LMDh/Hypercar starring a thunderous, naturally aspirated 5.5L DOHC V8 (Cadillac LMC55R) paired to the class-standard hybrid unit.

It ran the full IMSA GTP season and a parallel WEC program, marking Cadillac’s first Le Mans assault in 21 years.

And what a return that was.

2023

The new GTP era opened at Daytona where Cadillac landed P3 and P4 overall—both V-Series.Rs finishing on the lead lap after 24 hours, an impressive first outing for a brand-new hybrid platform.

In June, Cadillac crossed the Atlantic for the defining race of that season: the 24 Hours of Le Mans where the No. 2 V-Series.R (Bamber/Lynn/Westbrook) finished 3rd overall, Cadillac’s first Le Mans podium of the modern era.

Core Cadillac

The car’s core is a 5.5L V8 working within the LMDh hybrid rules to a combined series-limited 670 hp, all neatly bundled in a Dallara chassis. Chris Mikalauskas, Cadillac Exterior Studio’s lead designer, headed the design team, working with Cadillac Racing and Dallara to get that gorgeous-looking silhouette to match Cadillac brand cues.

It’s a package built for reliability, stint pace … and that unmistakable American V8 soundtrack.

What It’s Like To Drive

This is a rhythm car with a big, linear V8 and hybrid assist that smooths the holes in the torque curve. The NA engine gives predictable throttle—keep revs in the happy zone and it pulls cleanly off medium-speed corners, while the hybrid harvest/deploy cycle rewards tidy braking and precise throttle picks.
