1973 Chevrolet Corvette C3 Comes to Project Motor Racing

May 29, 2026

Loud, aggressive, and angry enough to start a fight in an empty room.

This was America’s most beloved sports car in full shark-body swagger: a bonnet the size of a European country, a tail shorter than its temper, Coke-bottle hips, hidden headlights, and the kind of stance that looked as if it’d already started an argument with the local traffic cops.

Then someone decided all of that was really weak sauce and thought, “You know what would make this better? A 427, 7L V8!” Because the right answer is always more displacement.

Part of the magic of the C3 is that it came from a different school of performance. Europe in the early ’70s were already way down the road of grace, poise, refined engineering, and studied solutions. The Corvette, instead, brought cubic inches, attitude, and muscle. It was heavy, loud, physical, and not the sort of thing you took home to meet Mother.

And then they took it racing.

In 1973, Greenwood’s BFGoodrich-backed Corvettes took the C3 into some of the biggest arenas in sports-car racing, including Daytona, Sebring, and Le Mans. The results were surprising: third overall at Sebring, followed by a one-two in class at Mid-Ohio’s six-hour IMSA race. It was never tidy, never gentle, and always capable of punching above its weight.

In Project Motor Racing, the C3 arrives as a period-style big-block bruiser. Which means it doesn’t care much for your delicate feelings or your GT3-learnt precise braking points and refined throttle technique.

What it wants is commitment.

Manage the nose, wait for the weight to settle, then feed in the throttle and let the V8 do what seven litres of loud American confidence does best. Power!

Get it right, and the Corvette will make you look like the most heroic driver on track: all torque, noise, muscle, and power-slides.

Get it wrong, and the C3 won’t be explaining what you did wrong. It will push wide, snap loose, and always try and transform rubber into smoke while you reconsider your life choices.

Bring courage and get ready to burn some sweat, because the 1973 Chevrolet Corvette C3 is obnoxious, loud, and about the best friend you’ll ever want. The kind of friend who starts an argument, then takes on the whole room because it’s Tuesday afternoon.

Yours to drive as part of the GT Icons Pack coming to Project Motor Racing June 23rd. Enjoy.
